"Wanderers" Acrylic 48" x 60" 1977
Done, way back in 1977 (see "X/Y"), as a homage to Georgia O'Keeffe, "Wanderers" has elements of a horizon, accidents (in the textures and some strokes), flow, and suggested (attempted?) order in the rectangles. The big, free blue shape and the flowing reds and yellows were a joy to make. |

"Morning Hint" Cibachrome 16" x 20"
1986
This computer work was done way back when I had to program the computer to make an image. I was fascinated with the ability to make moiré patterns, and the simple, blazing colors. Just as the effects of water-thinned paint are used in "Wanderers," above, so the things the computer wanted to do "naturally" are celebrated here. It has the effect of Van Gogh, done in another medium. (My apologies to Van Gogh) |

"Creation's Fingerprint" Cibachrome 8" x 10" 1996 Ten years after "Morning Hint" (above), the computer could do very interesting things with the graphics programs that had been developed. Still, I did not want my computer pieces look like oil paint or any other medium; so I worked with it in a way to make things that could only be done on a computer. I wanted to respect that medium and work with it, as Van Gogh, Picasso, or Jasper Johns worked with their media. By this time, within my works in all media, space and edges became important expressions of feeling and thought. As with Chaos Theory, order is made from randomness.
