1982-1991: "Boundaries"
"Glimpse to Be" Pastel and colored pencil over aquatint 8" x 9 3/4"

With a border nearly the same in value as the inside area, this piece suggests the known emerging from the unknown. Often, what happens outside the boundaries of senses or knowledge explodes or emerges gently into the current moment. Sun, moon, movement of whole continents, movement of love or fear -- all often begin outside the known present, out past boundaries of perception.

"Coming and Going" Acrylic 36" x 48"

There were many versions of the relationship between the boundary area outside sensed experience and the inner area of that which is sensed and brought into our minds. This piece is "drier," a metaphorical desert in which the moon is about to rise on the spare but beautiful landscape.

"Ventures Time" Acrylic 36" x 48"

Flowing spaces, formerly a feature of the main field (background), now drive the images also. As so often happens, in a while this new element will be the basis for a whole new style (see "1992-2000: Spaces").

"Worlds" Acrylic 36" x 48"

An artist can repeat the delightful experience of childhood by growing and changing continually. Worlds no longer uses a boundary surrounding the whole piece. New colors are introduced. Most importantly, the shapes generated from the border on the left are more life-like, whether nebula or human.
